What is Inner Child Work? Why Should We Do It?
Usually when someone is talking about inner child work, they are mentioning in reference to trauma work. Traditionally it was believed that we will need to reconnect with our younger self (at the time the trauma happened) and heal ourselves at that age/time. Hence the term, “doing inner child work” meaning that when we act out in certain ways (as a reaction to our trauma) we are really acting out as that child self. We have all had scary and traumatizing things happen to us, the problem is that as an adult we don’t see it as such. Instead we look back (through our adult lens) and say to ourselves “well that wasn’t really that big of a deal, I was just being a baby” and we invalidate and downplay our experience at the time.
